Whether you’re choosing colors for new paint in your home, new clothes, or you need new wallpaper, a swatch book can be beneficial to have on hand. This is a small book that has several different colors and shades in it that you can use to compare and determine what would look best in your home as you can hold the book against various surfaces. Here are a few tips for using the book.

Sections

When you look at swatch books, you’ll see that they are divided into small sections. The colors typically range from the lighter shades to the darker ones with four or five colors on each card. The book usually has a color theme, such as summer shades or winter hues, with colors that are often associated with that theme. If you already have a color in your home that you like, you can use the book to match the color so that you can get more paint, wallpaper, or other materials.

Matching

One of the reasons to use premier swatch books is so that you can get an exact match instead of finding a color that’s close enough to what you have or want. The colors should blend together when you put the swatches next to other colors that you have so that you can’t tell where the card ends while it’s against the surface. If you’re using the book to match colors for clothing, you want to hold each item up to the book so that you can see which shades you might like and which ones don’t match what you have so that you know what to get when you’re shopping.
