Packing For Your Stay at Any Malibu Rehabilitation Center

by | Sep 8, 2016 | Drug Addiction

The best treatment facilities in Malibu are designed to be a comfortable home away from home for the patient during their stay. Depending on the treatment plan this could be for a 28-day stay or longer.

Knowing what to bring to the rehabilitation center and what to avoid bringing is an important part of making your first experience at the facility a very positive one. The last thing that anyone wants is to have a conflict at admissions over items that are packed or brought onto the campus that are on the prohibited list.

During your initial conversation, which is typically by phone, the admissions counselor will review items that are required and items which are prohibited. As this can often be a long list for both, typically you will also receive this information in a follow-up email or by fax.

Each rehabilitation center will have slightly different lists of both acceptable and unacceptable items. As a general reference, the following items are typically included on these two lists.

Acceptable Items

Most facilities have very few restrictions on items of clothing as long as they are appropriate to wear in co-ed types of settings. If you are going to a Malibu rehabilitation center, bring clothing that is suitable for the year-round warm climate in the area. Typically, a sweater or light jacket will be all that is required even in the winter months.

Bathing suits, sports clothing, casual dress and comfortable clothing is typically the kind of dress for the facility. There may be requirements for this clothing so be sure to check. You will also want to have pajamas, a bathrobe and your basic toiletries.

You may want to bring small pictures of your family and loved ones for your room as well as personal items that are approved. You will not need to worry about general supplies as the facility will typically provide these. If you have special products or supplies you would like to bring, check with the facility first. Bring prescription medications but notify the admissions staff when you arrive.

Items to Leave at Home

The list of items to leave at home may be fairly long for a rehabilitation center. In general, you will not be able to bring:

  • Laptops, tablets, cell phones or other electronic devices, at least not during the initial treatment

  • Valuable jewelry or large pictures and items

  • Any type of non-prescription medication including over-the-counter medications, herbal medications, supplements or vitamins.

  • Specific types of beauty products or personal products that contain specific chemicals or ingredients

  • Any types of drugs or alcohol or products containing these ingredients

  • Aerosol cans

  • Electronic cigarettes

Following the guidelines of the Malibu treatment center will be important. If you have any questions or aren’t sure about an item, just call your admissions counselor and ask.
