The Conveniences of Off-Campus Student Living in Mount Pleasant

by | Jan 17, 2024 | Student Housing Center

It might seem that living in a residence hall instead of an off-campus apartment would be more convenient for various reasons. However, there are certain advantages to off-campus students living in Mount Pleasant. Just a few include avoiding noise while studying and preparing and eating meals at home.

Avoiding Noise at Home

Residence halls can be noisy with loud music, people talking in hallways, and roommates having friends over. When someone needs to concentrate on studying or writing a paper, heading to the library often is the best option. Yet many students would rather stay in the comfort of home. That’s especially true in rainy or snowy conditions. Mount Pleasant has about 16 snowy days each winter on average.

Eating Meals at Home

Another convenient aspect of off-campus students living in Mount Pleasant is being able to eat most meals at home. There’s no need to go to a commons or another area on campus with dining options. That’s fine when the student is already out and about for classes or extracurricular activities, but it can be a hassle having to leave the dorm and go somewhere else for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

Meal Preparation at Home

The apartment also provides the opportunity to prepare meals there. This is appealing to someone who enjoys that activity and likes having more control over food options. A dining area with room for a table and several chairs makes it easy to have friends over for dinner, too.
